Hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation; in fact, it gets worse! This week on Phillies Friday we get an inside look at the Phillies 2nd Annual “Phans Feeding Families” initiative – a much needed summer hunger relief program.
Spearheaded by Roy and his wife, Brandy, through their Halladay Family Foundation, “Phans Feeding Families” benefits Philabundance at a time when it needs it the most. During the school year, nearly 300,000 children in the region receive free and reduced school lunches – but that stops for the summer. These crutual months are also a time when Philabundance sees a significant drop in food donations.
Since joining the Phillies family last season, Brandy Halladay has been extremely passionate about the hunger issue in the Delaware Valley. She has stepped up her game this year (no pun intended!) as a spokesperson for “Phans Feeding Family.” She encourages fans to bring canned goods to the ballpark to help support Philabundance in this time of need. The next collection date at the ballpark is August 5th. You can also help support the cause by purchasing a commemorative Phans Feeding Families pin for $8.99 either at www.philabundance.org/feedingfamilies or in the ballpark starting in mid-July.
