Hunger Action Month: Meet Our Celebrity Advocates

September is Hunger Action Month, and our local celebrity advocates have signed up to help Philabundance spread awareness on this serious issue that affects so many of our neighbors throughout the Delaware Valley.

By joining our Paper Plate Advocacy Project, these caring supporters are contributing in just one way in the fight against hunger. Whether it’s organizing events, educating over the airwaves or cooking up great ideas, their innovative advocacy continues to making an inspiring difference for those in need. Eric Ripert is a world-renowned chef, author, television personality and avid supporter of Philabundance. As the owner of 10 Arts Bistro & Lounge at the Ritz Carlton Philadelphia, Chef Ripert is the culinary mastermind behind the Philabundance Tasting Menu, a 3-course lunch or dinner selection that donates $1 for every order toward hunger relief. Tracy Davidson is an Emmy-Award winning broadcast journalist who has devoted her career to fair journalism, consumer reporting and health news. Currently an anchor at NBC 10, Ms. Davidson powerfully co-chairs Philabundance’s Ceres Society, an exclusive group of women who are harnessing their collective power and influence to fight hunger through advocacy, action and financial support.

Preston Elliot and Steve Morrison are Philadelphia’s popular hosts of the Preston & Steve Show, a morning radio comedy and variety broadcast on 93.3 FM WMMR. Preston and Steve have hosted events and food drives for those in need, including Camp Out Against Hunger, the largest annual food drive benefiting Philabundance, which collected 576,000 pounds of food in 2011.

 

 

 

Tony Luke, Jr. is an actor, musician, entertainer, restaurateur and the face behind the world-famous South Philly sandwich shop, Tony Luke’s. Always interested in sharing his energy and innovation in the fight against hunger, Tony Luke will be hosting Bike Night at his shop in Sicklerville, as a stop in the Hunger Strike Bike Tour.

Kelly and Chica the Chicken are the co-hosts of Sprout’s Sunny Side Up Show, an adventurous children’s sitcom featuring animation, live-action and a whole lot of surprises. As Paper Plate advocates, Kelly and Chica hope to inspire young audiences to share kindness and compassion to those in need.
