Bank of America Partners with Philabundance to Fight Hunger

News Source: The Doylestown Patch

Bank of America and Philabundance today announced that the bank will provide a two-for-one match of donations to Feeding America’s holiday “Give A Meal” program. Through this match, individuals will be able to triple the impact of their donations and provide meals to people in need in the Philadelphia region and across the country.

For every $1 donated through Give a Meal, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will make a $2 contribution up to a total match of $1.5 million – making three times the difference for those in need. The Give A Meal contribution is in addition to the bank’s $1 million contribution to the national office of Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger relief organization.

Donating to Give A Meal is simple. Contributions can be made online at www.bankofamerica.com/give or feedingamerica.org/BankofAmerica. Donors can direct their contribution to Philabundance, a Feeding America affiliate.

“Through the Give a Meal campaign, we’re looking to support Philabundance and their efforts to address the pervasive hunger rates and growing demand for food assistance,” said Thomas C. Woodward, Pennsylvania market president for Bank of America. “For every $1 donated, we can help provide 6 meals to families in need.”

This is the third year that the bank has partnered with Feeding America. Bank of America is the exclusive sponsor of the Give a Meal program this holiday season.  The program was a resounding success last year providing the financial equivalent of more than 26 million meals. The need for hunger relief continues to be great this year. According to the US Department of Agriculture, 50.1 million people in the United States are struggling with hunger. Of that number, 16.7 million are children.

The bank announced the Give A Meal support at Philabundance’s Hunger Relief Center in South Philadelphia, where more than a dozen volunteers, including members of the bank’s executive team, helped sort food that had been donated to Philabundance through food drives.

“Bank of America is a true partner in the fight against hunger and the Give A Meal program is a great way to give back and couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Bill Clark, president and executive director of Philabundance. “Philabundance and our network of neighborhood food pantries, shelters and emergency kitchens are seeing a 29 percent increase in need, making community-wide support more important than ever.”

So far this year, Bank of America employees have donated more than 17,000 volunteer hours to hunger-related nonprofits as part of the company’s broader commitment to service and will volunteer additional hours during the holiday season as part of the company’s pledge to donate more than 1.5 million employee volunteer hours in 2012.   Since 2009, Bank of America has invested nearly $20 million in hunger and critical needs programs, with a focus on supporting nonprofits like Feeding America and Philabundance across the United States.
