What is AmeriCorps VISTA?
AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 40 years.

What VISTA Members Do
VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. With passion, commitment, and hard work, you’ll create or expand programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

The Benefits of VISTA Service

By serving through VISTA, you’ll gain new skills, friends, and experiences—plus you’ll get the satisfaction that comes from helping others. During your service, you’ll also receive a modest living allowance, health care, and other benefits. And, upon completing your service, you can choose to receive either an education award worth $4,725 to pay for college, or $1,200 in cash.

Position Title Urban Gleaning VISTA

Position Summary

The Americorps VISTA could expect opportunities to work with both prospective and participating growers and grocery store managers and shape program development of rescuing fresh produce and perishable food. S/He would work closely with Food Acquisition staff to develop procedures for long-term program operations and both internal and external outcomes measurement to gauge program sustainability

Position Title Community Food Center (CFC) VISTA

Position Summary

The Community Food Center (CFC) is a new pilot program based on a choice food pantry model of distribution, meaning that clients pick from available (free) items, rather than receiving a traditional prepared bag or box. The CFC VISTAs will focus on community outreach, client relations, volunteer relations and the creation of a curriculum by which to transfer the knowledge of the pilot to other organizations.

Position Summary

The Inter Food Bank Sharing System VISTA will work with our food acquisition department, website manager, and transportation coordinator to set up the systems needed to make our resources available to other food banks and lay the foundation for an ongoing partnership with them in the future.

Position Summary

The Zone Empowerment VISTA will support efforts to strengthen the ability of the existing network of member Food Cupboards to provide better services to the community. It will involve working with selected agencies, either in groups or one on one, to develop their operational and administrative functions with respect to best operating practices.

Position Summary

The Community Engagement Officer VISTA will help build community wide support for Philabundance to raise the saliency of the organization and help strengthen the volunteer and internship programs. This position will assist the External Affairs and Communications departments in building and promoting events, outreach efforts, college fairs, and interdenominational religious advocacy.
