March 27th and 28th
Philadelphia Orchestra Food Drive
The Philadelphia Orchestra will participate in the nationwide Orchestras Feeding America, the first national food drive by America's symphony orchestras. Orchestra representatives will collect non-perishable food one hour prior to its concerts on March 27 and 28 in Commonwealth Plaza at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. All food will be donated to Philabundance.
In support of the food drive, The Philadelphia Orchestra is offering $25 tickets to the March 27 and 28 concerts with donation of food. These special tickets can only be purchased at the Kimmel Center Box office on March 27 and 28 beginning at 7:00 PM each evening. The donated food item must be presented at the time of purchase.
To date, more than 160 orchestras have come together to combat hunger in their communities through Orchestras Feeding America, and the number of participants is growing daily. The project will take place in March and April, and is organized by the League of American Orchestras, which represents the nation's professional, volunteer, and youth orchestras, and Feeding America's network of over 200 food banks and 63,000 agencies. The drive was inspired by the true story of the upcoming film The Soloist.
