Over 500 volunteers pitched in during Volunteer Appreciation Week, helping to sort and pack thousands of pounds of food that will be distributed to thousands of families in need. Volunteer groups included helpers from Comcast, PECO, Ritz Carlton, Drexel University and more.

The Pennington School was among volunteers during Volunteer Appreciation Week

Subaru was the top corporate donor at WMMR’s Preston & Steve’s Camp Out for Hunger for the second year in a row. Along with the reward of knowing the immense good they are doing in their community, the top corporation also gets a live Preston & Steve show broadcast from their office. It is a seriously fun morning for all.

This spring, Subaru took the fun even further by using their on air presence as another chance to give back. They posed a challenge to the community, where for each new like they received on facebook during the broadcast, they would donate 4 meals to Philabundance. WMMR’s listeners responded in a big way, and Subaru’s 6,750 new likes resulted in 30,000 meals for those in need across the Delaware Valley. Huge thank you to our friends at Subaru for always thinking of ways to give back!

The company also presented Philabundance with a $2,000 check which will provide 4,000 meals for our neighbors in need. The event was the first of what Philabundance hopes will be many partner events as a part of our off-site corporate engagement program. Johnson & Johnson’s Consumer Group proved that the possibilities are limitless for a group of people working together to achieve a common goal.

On February 21, members of the Philadelphia City Council put aside politics for one night and joined together in a star-studded, bipartisan talent show and fundraiser for Philabundance.

City Council’s Got Talent featured performances from Jannie L. Blackwell, Marian B. Tasco, Council President Darrell L. Clarke and many other spirited council members and staffers. From whirling dance numbers to stand-up comedy, all acts were judged by former Council President Anna C. Verna, former Mayor John F. Street, and radio personality Joe Conklin.

The entertaining night ended with a presentation of $30,000, (equivalent to 60,000 meals) toward hunger relief efforts in the Delaware Valley, which was accepted by Philabundance President Bill Clark.

The AmeriCorps VISTA members at Philabundance also provided orientations about MLK Day, and facilitated group reflections with the volunteers. They spoke about the value of serving and the meaning of this special day of service.

Volunteer groups included: HOBY PA East, National Park Service, Shipley School, Samuel Sels High School Male Mentoring League, GPX Enterprises, Vanguard, Holy Redeemer Associates, and Sage Financial. Thank you to everyone who lent a helping hand!

In a convoy driven by local dealership representatives, nearly 30 Toyota Tundra pick up trucks helped deliver 20,000 pounds of dry food and funds for Philabundance. The convoy later delivered 6,168 pounds to the Second Harvest Food Bank in Allentown, bringing the total amount of donations to 26,168 pounds!

Helping to unload food was The Phanatic of the Philadelphia Phillies, representatives from the Philadelphia Union, the 76ers, Phillies, Flyers, Trenton Titans, Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association President Paul Muller, and other area partners.

In October, KIND Healthy Snacks challenged the Delaware Valley to complete one small act of kindness as part of their Do the KIND Thing campaign. If 5,000 neighbors pledged to complete this one small KIND Act, KIND would commit to one Big KIND Act and partner with Philabundance to provide thousands of Thanksgiving meals to people who are in need of support.

Unsurprisingly, neighbors in the Delaware Valley delivered, and so representatives from KIND dropped by Philabundance’s Community Food Center in North Philadelphia.

Volunteers from Philabundance, KIND and community members helped stock the food pantry, shared KIND’s all-natural snacks and offered free tote bags to families who benefit from the CFC.

As part of the KIND Movement, KIND launched “Do the Kind Thing” to inspire unexpected acts of kindness and to empower citizens to turn one act of kindness into a BIG KIND Act that can make a BIG impact in the lives of people in need. Learn more about the movement here.

The donation is the culmination of a month-long campaign against hunger, which started on October 1 in Philadelphia. For each egg breakfast sandwich purchased at participating SUBWAY^® restaurants in Philadelphia, America’s egg farmers donated one egg to Philabundance. Donations are made possible by Michael’s Foods.

The donation and breakfast are part of the Good Egg Project, an initiative by America’s Egg Farmers to educate people about where eggs come from and to encourage Americans to help conquer hunger in the United States.
