Canstruction

Canstruction is a national charity that combines the competitive spirit of a design with a unique way to help feed hungry people. Competing teams, led by architects and engineers, showcase their talents by designing giant sculptures made entirely out of canned foods. Canstruction is held in nearly 100 cities across North America.

In 2007 Canstruction came to Philadelphia. Colossal can structures were created and put on display from April 14 to April 21, 2007 at Liberty Place in Philadelphia. At the close of the exhibition, the 45,000 cans used in the structures were donated to Philabundance.

Ten teams built 10 structures and the teams came from: Ballinger; BartonPartners; Burce Brooks & Associates; Burt Hill; CUH2A with SGRA and  TBS Services; Hillier Architecture with Intech Construction; Granary Associates; KieranTimberlake Associates; O’Donnell & Naccarato; and Peter Zimmerman Architects.

Canstruction Philadelphia was organized by the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects during National Architecture Week and DesignPhiladelphia.
