Mayor Street Proclaims June 7th Philabundance Day
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Mayor John F. Street will proclaim June 7 2005 Philabundance Day at a ceremony in LOVE Park.
On Tuesday, June 7 at 11 a.m., Mayor John Street will proclaim the Day Philabundance Day in recognition of the recent integration of Philabundance and the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank, and in conjunction with National Hunger Awareness Day June 7, 2005, the national grassroots movement to raise awareness about the solvable problem of hunger in America.
Ringing in National Hunger Awareness Day at 9 a.m., Ruben Amaro, assistant general manager of the Phillies, will sound the opening bell of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, accompanied by Philabundance executive director Bill Clark and Philabundance board chairman David Buten. Following the opening bell, members of the Stock Exchange can make the "Best Trade of the Day" by offering their lunch money in exchange for a tasty snack to help feed people in need.
Philabundance and the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank, the Delaware Valley's two largest hunger relief organizations recently integrated to form a new entity, which operates under the Philabundance name. The merger positions Philabundance as the largest food collection and distribution network in the region. It assists more than 1,100 human service agencies across nine counties, feeding more than 574,000 area residents who live at or below the poverty line and who are at risk of hunger.
Created in 2002, National Hunger Awareness Day is an effort to raise awareness of—and donations to help end—hunger in America. Tuesday, June 7, 2005 will mark this year's observance with activities taking place in communities across America. |
