Preston and Steve's Camp Out For Hunger - Record Setting

Philadelphia, PA - 93.3 WMMR / Philly's 1st Rock Station put Philly 1st by presenting Preston and Steve's 9th Annual Camp Out for Hunger.

From 6am Monday, December 4th until Friday, December 8th at 10am, WMMR morning show hosts Preston Elliot and Steve Morrison camped out at the Metroplex Shopping Center in Plymouth Meeting, PA collecting non-perishable food items on behalf of Philabundance. They broadcast their show each morning while living in an RV all week.

The response was phenomenal. MMR listeners filled 16 tractor trailers with food, totaling over 150 tons (301,708 pounds). Plus, Preston and Steve received an additional $18,337.63 in cash from charitable members of the community that went directly to Philabundance.

"Once again we are completely blown away by the generosity of the people of the greater Philadelphia area," Preston states. "Year after year we manage to surpass totals that we think are unsurpassable because of the support of this awesome community. Philly...YOU ROCK!!!!!"

To entice the already-charitable MMR listeners to donate, a plethora of prizes were awarded. For donating over 59,000 pounds of food, Cheap Caribbean won a 4-hour live Preston & Steve broadcast at their office for being the business with the largest contribution. North Penn High School won a free concert, hosted by Preston and Steve and starring Ok Go for making the largest donation by a high school: over 3,900 pounds.

All of the food will tremendously benefit Philabundance and the hungry people of the Delaware Valley, especially during the holidays.

"Once again Camp Out for Hunger is a tremendous success, the largest food drive in Philabundance experience," Martha M. Buccino, Vice President of Strategic Development at Philabundance exclaimed. "The food collected will be distributed throughout the Delaware Valley by the network of agencies in the community. Philabundance extends our heartfelt thanks to WMMR on behalf of every person who will benefit from the largest food drive collected for us."

WMMR-FM is owned and operated by Greater Media, Inc., the parent company of 20 AM and FM stations located in Boston, Detroit, New Jersey and Philadelphia markets. It also owns a modern printing plant and a group of weekly newspapers in central New Jersey as well as several telecommunications towers located throughout the United States.
