Food Supply Not Enough to Meet Community Needs
Philabundance calling for help for the holidays

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Philabundance is experiencing a serious shortage of food and is calling on Delaware Valley organizations and residents to help meet the mounting need for food in communities throughout the region.

Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, collects food all year-round, but there is always a special need around the holidays. In an effort to help increase the supply of food distributed to its network of more than 600 agencies in the region who provide meals and foodstuffs to the 900,000 low income residents in the Delaware Valley, Philabundance is appealing to organizations and individuals to plan food drives and donate non-perishable food and funds, so that Philabundance can secure enough food to distribute to those people in our community at risk of hunger and malnutrition.

Around the Delaware Valley more and more people than ever are seeking food aid from cupboards, shelters and emergency kitchens and because of this upsurge the need for food is increasingly underestimated and Philabundance, its network of agencies and other food banks experience food shortages and struggle to meet the needs of those they serve. Also, because food donations always drop in the summer months, while the need continues, food inventory levels are low as the cold weather months set in.

Philabundance relies on the generous support of all segments of the Delaware Valley community—individuals, corporations, foundations, as well as community groups—to help feed our hungry Delaware Valley neighbors. To find out about organizing a food/fund drive, contact Philabundance at 215-339-0900 or visit the website at

Philabundance is the region’s largest food bank and hunger relief organization. Working with more than 600 neighborhood organizations in both Southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey, Philabundance fights hunger and malnutrition principally by collecting and distributing food to people in need.
