The Community Food Center (CFC) is Philabundance’s choice-model food pantry and was created in 2009 in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Community Service and Saint Joseph’s University.
A choice-model food pantry allows participants to choose from available items rather than receive a pre-packaged bag or box. Philabundance started the CFC to promote a stronger sense of dignity, while effectively distributing food by allowing people to choose items they will actually eat. Each week, the CFC distributes approximately 21,000 pounds of food to 1200 households. Of those that visit the CFC, 52% of the households have children, 25% of the households have seniors, 86% have no one employed in their household, 59%are on food stamps and 98% of attendees are at or below the poverty line.
Community Food Center will be closing as of 12/28/13. We will not be taking any new registrations.
