Adequate nutrition is vital to the growth and development of youth.
It is our goal to provide programs targeted directly at children in need to address this crisis. In the fall of 2012, we launched our children’s initiative, KidsBites, to ensure that kids across the Delaware Valley have the food they need to thrive and grow.
Target Meals for Minds program supports a number of programs, including KidsBites. Citizens Bank Foundation also supports KidsBites through anti-child hunger support. BNY Mellon, First Hospital Foundation, Procter & Gamble, The W.W. Smith Charitable Trust, TEVA North America, Aberdeen Asset Management, Morgan Stanley, and the National Dairy Council have also generously supported KidsBites.
Our first project under KidsBites is in partnership with Lowell Elementary School in the Olney section of Philadelphia. Stester Elementary in Chester, Delaware County is the second program site. This program provides access to nutritious food in low-income areas for the families of all students enrolled. Food is distributed once a month allowing families of the students at the partner school to choose from available food options, including fresh produce, protein and dairy. The ability to choose promotes a sense of dignity for families.
Volunteers are integral to the success of this program. During the summer months, both sites will be operating from 10:30-11:30 am. Volunteers are needed from 10 am-12 pm. The remaining summer dates are:
Stetser Elementary: 7/9, 7/23, 8/13 & 8/27
Lowell Elementary: 7/17 & 8/21
