Kashal Mack
Kashal Mack is an intelligent, soft spoken young man who enrolled in the Philabundance Community Kitchen (PCK) with a desire to make a new start.
Prior to his enrollment into the 14 week training program, Kashal had several part-time employment positions, but was unsure of the type of career he should pursue. Although he had dabbled in food service and was not certain about its career potential, decided because he had a strong interest in food service that he would give PCK his best effort.

Additionally, Kashal suffered from an extreme lack of self confidence, due to a mental illness and would be overly critical of himself which would cause him to become aggravated. With the support of his mother he got involved with an organization that develops supports and promotes innovative education and advocacy programs. He also began receiving supplementary income at this time.
Initially, Kashal was reserved but as he gained confidence through practicing his culinary skills, he began to develop an eye for analyzing and correcting recipes. He began to help others in the kitchen. He learned to accept criticism and not allow it to stunt his self esteem. As Kashal moved through the program he began to develop good culinary skills and began to gain a thirst for the industry. With his growing confidence in his abilities, he opened himself up to learn more.
Kashal interned with Aramark Services, one of the nation’s leading food service management corporations, at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, in the Dining Services Department. During those two weeks, he worked in all aspects of preparing and serving meals for the students and staff. His outstanding performance merited an excellent evaluation from the Chef Harry Honer.
With a successful internship and a renewed sense of value he hit the job market. Kashal Mack graduated from PCK with his ServSafe Certification, along with a renewed sense of purpose and satisfaction. He suffered a minor set back and reevaluated his priorities. Kashal rededicated himself into a job search, which resulted in employment at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He is still doing well working for Hahnemann. He has since discontinued his supplementary income and has referred people from his advocacy group to PCK and speaks highly of how PCK has helped him to reach his potential.
He gained employment in a field he enjoys, he improved his financial situation including ending his supplementary income and he set himself on a course in a career which he can continue to develop for years to come.
