Mother’s Day falls on the weekend of May 10th this year. We hope congregations and organizations will help us provide the needed support to the most vulnerable and youngest neighbors in the Delaware Valley.

Too many newborns in our community face the risk of hunger and malnutrition, and their devastating long-term side effects each year. Infant formula is expensive, which makes it difficult for struggling families to afford the right nutrition their babies need to grow and develop properly. Babies are often fed watered-down formula in order to stretch available dollars, or moved to cow’s milk and/or solid foods sooner than their digestive systems can handle, putting them at risk for hunger and/or malnutrition.

Philabundance wants to continue to help make sure that all Delaware Valley babies get a healthy start in life, and so we are asking congregations or organization to once again take up a collection on Mother’s Day weekend—or any other time that is convenient—to help support BabyManna. Every dollar will be used to purchase and distribute infant formula and products to our member agencies throughout the Delaware Valley.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Eleanor Missimer at emissimer@philabundance.org or call 215-339-0900, ext. 350

Facts Related to BabyManna

  • Over 12,000 babies are born into poverty throughout the Delaware Valley each year. Infant malnutrition is not confined strictly to urban areas.
  • Most of these children are bottle-fed, often because they are cared for by someone other than their mother.
  • Baby products are one of the most requested items by Philabundance’s member agencies.
  • Since 1994, when it was started, congregations and individuals have helped raise more than $540,000 for BabyManna.

Please help us make this a special Mother’s Day weekend for struggling mothers and infants in the Delaware Valley. There can be no greater gift to a mother than to provide her with the means to ensure that her baby is well fed and will grow up healthy.
