Bastille Day commemorates the storming of a notorious French prison in 1789, which sparked that country’s revolution. Philly’s Fairmount section takes note, but here it’s more of a “Let them eat cake” thing. Start celebrating tonight with a French Fling Bar Crawl; continue tomorrow with movies and dinner specials at Fairmount restaurants. The Bastille Day Festival on Saturday starts at 2 p.m., with more French goodies and themed activities. At 5:30, London Grill co-owner Terry McNally, portraying Marie Antoinette, is taken to Eastern State Penitentiary (portraying the Bastille). As she cries, “Let them eat Tastykake!” 2,000 Tastykakes will be flung from the prison walls to the waiting crowds. More on this 17th-annual free event at EasternState.org/bastille.

SJ HOT Chefs, the attention-getting nickname for the South Jersey Independent Restaurant Association, hosts its fifth annual Farm to Fork Week Sunday through July 23. Participating restaurants will create four-course menus for $25-$35 featuring Jersey-grown products from such places as 1895 Organic Farm, Duffield’s Farm Market, Hunter’s Farm, Mood’s Farm Market, Muth Family Farm and Spinella Farm. Remember a few months back when Philabundance asked all you gardeners out there to plant an extra row of veggies for Share the Harvest? That’s why you have so many zucchini already!
