Empty Bowls Feed Empty Bellies, Providing 8,600 meals!

Students from Log College Middle School

Empty Bowls is a national movement that has become an annual Philabundance benefit lead by middel school teacher, Laurie Schenfelt where students create ceramic bowls that are then sold at a soup and bread dinner held by staff and students. Students are taught how to make beautiful bowls in their art class and later encouraged to donate their bowls to the benefit.

Laurie Schenfelt first introduced the Empty Bowls project to Leary Elementary School in Warminster, PA and most recently has taken the project to Log College Middle School, also located in Warminster where she now teaches. This year’s Empty Bowls event raised $4,300, that’s 8600 meals for those who need it most! Over the past 4 years that Laurie has been facilitating the event, she has raised more than $18,000, equivalent to 36,000 meals. That’s incredible!

We’d like to send a sincere thank you to Laurie Schenfelt for her commitment to the fight against hunger and to the students and families of Log College Middle School!
