Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month— a nationwide campaign organized by Feeding America, the national association of top-performing food banks, urging the public to take action to fight hunger. Hunger is a crisis impacting 1 in 5 people in the Philadelphia area, while the national average is 1 in 8.

Throughout September, Philabundance will host events to raise awareness of hunger, and launch a campaign to provide 50,000 meals for the hundreds of thousands of people in our area who don’t know where their next meal is coming from – or if they’ll have one at all.

From September 1-30, our generous sponsors Fingerpaint, Kampus Klothes, PECO and PJM Interconnection will match individual’s donations. Usually, a $1 donation provides two meals to help feed those in need, but during September, $1 will provide four meals.

A list of Hunger Action Month events and promotions include:

  • PantryBoxes, a new food program for seniors, begins in September. Thanks to generous sponsor, The W. W. Smith Charitable Trust, 625 boxes of food will be available to seniors who would NOT otherwise get this necessary food.
  • Fare & Square, Philabundance’s nonprofit grocery store in Chester, PA, is celebrating its 4th anniversary this year, with a block party on Saturday, September 30 from 11 AM – 3 PM, featuring food samples, a DJ, a moon bounce, a raffle and other family-friendly activities.
