News Source: Philadelphia Weekly

If only every fine Philly eatery’s anniversary soiree could be this downright dynamite. A festive Center City block party, replete with good music, chef-created nibbles, craft beer sampling and two more of our favorite things: drinking and judging? Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes! Square 1682 is turning five in grand style this weekend, presenting the aptly-named High Steaks!, its “Philly cheesesteak challenge and cocktail competition.” Whatever they’re calling it, this mini-street fair’s got all the makings of a grand fall afternoon, and all to benefit Philabundance.

High Steaks’ organizers—the formidable Kimpton City lead bartender Chauncey Scates and Square 1682 executive chef Caitlin Mateo, pictured above—dug deep to inspire and invite the array of restaurants and talented bar pros that’ll be lined up Sansom: Davio’s is entering their addictive cheesesteak rolls, next to delicious takes on the ‘steak courtesy of Rouge, Red Owl Tavern, Rex 1516, Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery, Circles, Tuk Tuk Real, Paradiso Restaurant and Wine Bar, Devil’s Den and, of course, Square 1682. Count mixologists from spots like Bainbridge Street Barrel House,, 1 Tippling Place, Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co., Oyster House and the Crow and the Pitcher among the best-cocktail competitors. And if the divine Miss Scates—formerly of Apothecary and Franklin Mortgage—is in the contest, brace yourself.

Actually, brace yourself anyway—for a damn good time, for a damn good cause.
