Working Together Is the Only Way to End Hunger

Posted by Philabundance Digital Media on March 1st, 2014

Some people believe that since hunger has been a scourge from biblical times, humankind can never really expect to end it. Maybe reducing it or maybe minimizing it is possible, but not really ending it. I fully disagree. The United States is the richest country in the world. We have learned how to abolish slavery, eliminate child labor and extend women the right to vote. Nowadays, a public or volunteer fire company will extinguish your house fire whether you are rich or poor. Our schools will educate your children whether you are rich or poor. An ambulance will take you to the hospital where you will get good care whether you are rich or poor. For that matter, if you are accused of a crime, you will be provided competent counsel even if you cannot afford one.

We believe that the forces of progress will continue in the future. Someday, our children will have nourishing food regardless of family income; seniors and veterans who have worked all their lives for our country will never face hunger, and that families struck by economic misfortune will be able to keep their savings and their hopes for a better life while also putting food on their table.

When I came to Philabundance in 2001, my background was in the food business. As an entrepreneur, I learned the fierce dedication required to bring a dream into reality. For the past 13 years, I have had the honor of leading some of the hardest working and most dedicated individuals whom I have ever met. Together, we have been fighting hunger with an arsenal of services and programs. Our efforts have taken this charity, which has always been guided by a strong sense of compassion, to a higher level of professionalism and effectiveness.

As a leader of this organization, I have been aggressive and forceful in our fight against hunger. Why? Because we believe that if you trust us with your dollars or you face hunger, you would want us to do everything we possibly can to accomplish our goals. We expect to be held accountable in delivering our mission.

Philabundance fields a great team. But only the community as a whole can end a community-wide problem like hunger. We need to come together in a movement to end hunger. There are countless ways to join the fight. I invite you to reach out to me at with any question, comment, suggestion or offer of support.

Only a few have the power of bending history single-handedly, but each of us has a role to play. It is the power of all of us working together that will change the world for the better.
