Goggin, a junior center mid, has received all-state field hockey recognition and was vital to the Golden Bears’ highly successful season, in which they advanced to the PIAA District One championship game as well as the PIAA state tourney. Goggin proved to be a solid scorer, led the team in assists and gave the Golden Bears some outstanding defensive play. Merion Mercy field hockey head coach Dani DeLeo said, “Kelly is constantly hustling and talking on the field with her teammates. She is extremely focused once she hits the field and always ready to play.”

Main Line Media News: What to you has been the highlight of your Merion Mercy field hockey career to date? Can you tell us a little bit about that experience?

Kelly Goggin: The highlight of my Merion career to date was our advance into the state tournament this season. Although we fell early, our program has continued to build, strengthen and advance each year. Merion has not qualified for the tournament in quite some time so it is a big step to be a part of such a strong, hard-working team.

Main Line Media News: Tell us a little about your responsibilities as a center mid.

Kelly Goggin: As the center mid, I work diligently to assist the forwards in maintaining possession of the ball as well as aiding the defenders in clearing the ball out of our end of the field. Being in the center of the field enables me to control the speed of the game by quickly releasing the ball and pressuring the other team when we do not have possession.
