Nationwide Insurance Foundation Gives Philabundance $30,000

Funds Come at a Time of Great Need, Says President

Philabundance today announced that they have received a grant of $30,000 from the Nationwide Insurance Foundation which will provide 60,000 meals for people in need.  Philabundance is receiving the funds as a part of a $1.25 million donation being made to the national office of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization and 19 of its member food banks in communities where Nationwide associates live and work.

“We are very pleased to receive this donation from the Nationwide Insurance Foundation,” said Bill Clark, president and executive director, Philabundance. “Community support is so important right now as Philabundance experiences 98 percent more people coming to us for food over the last three years.”

“Nationwide is honored to support Philabundance,” said Chad Jester, president of the Nationwide Insurance Foundation. “We’re also proud of the Nationwide associates who selflessly give their time and energy in support of hunger-relief initiatives. At Nationwide, we believe that we can do more together than we can alone.”

In addition to Nationwide Insurance Foundation’s financial support, thousands of Nationwide associates donate to food drives and volunteer at food banks throughout the country each year. In 2010, Feeding America awarded Nationwide Insurance the Group Volunteer Service of the Year Award for the company’s work with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

The grant funding is coming at a time of particular need as food insecurity remains high across the Delaware Valley according to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap data. For example, in the Delaware Valley, nearly 15 percent of residents are food-insecure.
