Philabundance and First Niagara Raise more than $35,000 Through Camp Out For Hunger
PHILADELPHIA, January 31, 2014 – Philabundance and First Niagara Financial Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:FNFG) are pleased to announce that more than $35,000 was raised during this year’s Camp Out For Hunger to help to feed Delaware Valley families in need.
First Niagara partnered with 93.3 WMMR and Preston & Steve’s Camp Out For Hunger to collect financial donations at its 65 Philadelphia-area branches to benefit Philabundance. This year, in addition to financial support, the annual week-long food drive collected 772,641 pounds of food for Philabundance.
The total donation amount includes more than $10,000 donated by First Niagara customers, employees and local residents, as well as an additional $25,000 from First Niagara to support the important work of Philabundance.
“Philabundance is thrilled by First Niagara’s fundraising and financial support during this year’s Camp Out For Hunger, which has become a crucial component of our food collection efforts,” said Philabundance President and Executive Director Bill Clark. “The addition of such a substantial financial contribution will allow us to continue providing access to healthy food for our neighbors in need.”
Philabundance serves approximately 72,000 people per week through its neighborhood distribution programs and its network of nearly 500 member agencies which include food pantries, shelters and emergency kitchens. The local nonprofit estimates that the over $35,000 raised will allow it to provide approximately 70,000 meals to Delaware Valley residents.
“First Niagara is committed to helping the communities we serve thrive,” said First Niagara Senior Vice President Joe Tedesco. “We recognize that there are thousands of local residents who don’t always have access to nutritious, affordable food options for their families, which is why we are proud to support Philabundance and its mission to eradicate food insecurity.”
