Philabundance Commemorates 30 Years of Driving Hunger from the Delaware Valley this Hunger Action Month
Philadelphia, Pa- September 8, 2014– September is Hunger Action Month, a national initiative to raise awareness of hunger in our communities. In response, Philabundance is launching its “30 Ways in 30 Days” campaign to mobilize people in the Delaware Valley to participate in the fight against hunger. And this year, the number 30 has even more meaning as Philabundance commemorates 30 years of driving hunger from our communities.
Hunger Action Month is an effort to rally the public to help Philabundance and Feeding America raise awareness of hunger in the Delaware Valley and across the country. Feeding America, the national network of food banks across the United States, reports that one in six Americans face hunger. In the Delaware Valley, there are 900,000 people at risk of hunger.
“Hunger Action Month is more meaningful this year as Philabundance reflects back on 30 years of fighting hunger,” said Susan Fink, senior vice president and chief development officer at Philabundance. “We hope that 30 years from now, hunger will not be such an overwhelming issue in our region, and we challenge the community to work better together to stop hunger in its tracks. Hunger Action Month is the right time to learn about our areas hunger issues. Please help us spread awareness and take right action.”
Philabundance is offering an opportunity to take a daily stand against hunger by providing a “30 Ways in 30 Days” calendar guide of easy and impactful ways each of us can fight hunger in the Delaware Valley. Whether organizing a food drive, texting a donation or spreading the message that hunger is unacceptable, members of the community are encourage to get involved. Ways include:

2014, marks Philabundance’s 30th anniversary of fighting hunger in the Delaware Valley. Philabundance reduces hunger and food insecurity in the Delaware Valley by providing food access to people in need in partnership with organizations and individuals. Philabundance provides a full plate of services through neighborhood distribution programs and a network of nearly 450 member agencies in 9 counties in PA and NJ. Philabundance serves approximately 75,000 people each week at a cost of 50 cents per meal. There are more than 900,000 people in the Delaware Valley who are at risk for chronic hunger and malnutrition. In 2013, Philabundance distributed nearly 30 million pounds of food.
