Philabundance Fights Hunger Pound for Pound

Philadelphia, Pa.- January 4, 2010- Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, and Feeding America are participating this year in the third annual Pound for Pound Challenge. In partnership with NBC’s The Biggest Loser, General Mills and Subway, the Pound for Pound Challenge is offering people nationwide an opportunity to pledge their weight loss goals to help feed those in need across the country.

For every pound pledged to pfpchallenge.com, Pound for Pound Challenge will donate 11¢ to Feeding America up to a maximum donation of $1,040,000 (8 million pounds), who will distribute money to the local food banks chosen by participants at registration now through May 31st.

“The Pound for Pound Challenge is an excellent way to draw attention to the national issue of hunger in America while supporting local efforts to drive hunger from our communities,” said Bill Clark, president and executive director of Philabundance. “We have seen the need for food assistance increase 66% over the last two years, this challenge is a call to action for all of our neighbors to join in the fight against hunger.”

Built around the success of NBC’s The Biggest Loser, the program allows anyone to shed pounds or maintain their current weight along with the show’s contestants by pledging goals online. NBC’s The Biggest Loser Season 11 premiers on January 4th where they will feature spots on the Pound for Pound Challenge. Participants can tune in every Tuesday at 8 pm to follow contestants each week.

The Delaware Valley already has 159 team members with over 4,400 pounds pledged. Philabundance wants to hear participant’s inspirational stories and reasons why they pledged their pounds for a chance to be featured on NBC’s The Biggest Loser. Philabundance asks for stories to be posted on their Facebook page for a chance to enter and inspire others, www.facebook.com/Philabundance.
