Philabundance, the region’s largest hunger relief organization, is holding the third annual Spread The Love food drive from February 1-14 to collect as much peanut butter and jelly as possible, as these food staples are in high demand by the community in need.

The price of peanut butter has increased by close to 30% over the past year due to weather conditions and failing crops, making it much more difficult for families in need to purchase this normally inexpensive (and high-in-protein) pantry staple.

ShopRite will donate a jar of peanut butter or jelly to Philabundance for every new fan that “Likes” Philabundance on Facebook from February 1 through Valentine’s Day.

Your incentive? Each person that joins the Spread the Love event page on Facebook will be entered to win a $500 airline voucher from US Airways or a 7-night stay at a Caribbean resort through Elite Island Resorts.

Other ways to support Philabundance during the food drive include dropping off jars of PB&J to Philabundance’s Hunger Relief Center in South Philly or the Berks Warehouse in North Philly. In so doing, you’ll double your chance to win the 7-night stay at a Caribbean resort; one raffle ticket will be given for each 25 jars (up to 5 chances) of peanut butter or jelly dropped off.

The last chance to donate jars of peanut butter and jelly will be at Philabundance’s Singles Volunteer Night on February 14 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. To participate, contact Jan at
