PHILADELPHIA – March 11, 2009 – Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, has set up shop(  The online store is an innovative approach to sell branded Philabundance merchandise to increase the visibility of hunger and Philabundance. The store will directly help support Philabundance’s day-to-day efforts to fight hunger in the region.

Any revenue above the cost of the merchandise and shipping and handling will go to help provide food for those in need. The store features t-shirts for men and women and string-backpacks. The merchandise playfully illustrates Philabundance’s mission with the taglines “(beet) hunger” and “(squash) hunger.”

In these challenging times and the months ahead as more and more people wonder how they will provide food for their families, Philabundance will be looking at more ways to increase the impact they make on the community in need. Philabundance’s network of 600 agencies is seeing an increase in need from people seeking food assistance by 31 percent. An increasing number of the new people coming to food banks have recently lost jobs, or are working reduced hours.

“There are many ways people can help support the growing need for food assistance in our community during these difficult economic times,” says Bill Clark, Philabundance’s president and executive director. “Our new online store offers customers the opportunity to give back to the community, while enjoying practical, quality products that make great gifts.”

Philabundance relies on the generous support of all segments of the Delaware Valley community to help ensure that nobody goes hungry.
