Philabundance was founded in 1984 by Philadelphia local, Pamela Rainey Lawler. Ms. Lawler founded Philabundance with the simple belief that no man, woman or child should go hungry. She started Philabundance out of her station wagon, going to bakeries and restaurants picking up perfectly good food that would otherwise be thrown away and delivering them to shelter and kitchens. In 2005, Philabundance merged with the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank to become the region’s largest hunger relief organization and shifted from food rescue to taking donated food through food drives held by the community and donations from partners in the food industry, which is then distributed to an established network of nearly 500 member agencies. Philabundance also works closely with corporations and individuals who support our mission through monetary donations . Philabundance is also a member of Feeding America, the nationwide network of more than 200 food banks.

What is your organization’s mission? Philabundance reduces hunger and food insecurity in the Delaware Valley by providing food access to people in need in partnership with organizations and individuals.

Why did you decide to join Registry10? We were contacted by Registry10 to be a part of their kickoff and were excited to have the opportunity to be included in such a unique project!

What do you like most about Registry10? Registry10 gives brides & grooms the opportunity to offer their guests an alternative to the traditional wedding gift. So often people are looking to give a gift with deeper meaning, and making a charitable donation to Philabundance can do just that! Especially because for each dollar donated, Philabundance is able to provide 2 meals. So now guests can get the bride & groom a few meals for those in need in addition to their fancy china.

How can people get involved and help Philabundance? Hold a food or fund drive, make a donation, volunteer. Visit www.philabundance.org for more information or call 215.339.0900. With the help of all our supporters, Philabundance provides enough food for a meal for 50 cents.

Looking for a way to give back to the community through your wedding? Add Philabundance to your Registry10 wedding registry and in lieu of gifts, asks guests to donate to this extremely impactful charity! Philabundance helps feed about 65,000 people a week…by adding Philabundace to your Registry10 you can support  and be a part of this fantastic charity.
