Nova, 8, and his best friend Reinaldo (pictured on the cover), 10, have decided they want be chefs when they grow up.
“We’re going to be the most famous chefs in the world!” Nova says with conviction.
Their health – and love of food – are being fueled by your generosity.
Before COVID-19 forced schools to close, the boys participated in the Philabundance BackPack program through their school, William Cramp Elementary, which provides weekend food through partnership with Philabundance for children who might otherwise go hungry when school meals aren’t available.
Anytime children are out of school – whether a planned holiday or an unexpected emergency closure – they face an increased risk of hunger. Even a short time without nutritious food makes children susceptible to developmental delays, behavioral problems and illness.
Thankfully, donors like you are helping to fill the gap when school meals aren’t available. And since school is finished for the foreseeable future, your support of Philabundance means our partner agencies can continue to provide families with the groceries to replace missing school meals.
Reinaldo says his favorite foods from the BackPack are crackers and milk. Nova loves milk, too, with Raisin Bran and peanut butter and jelly.
They might be making simple sandwiches today, but thanks to the nutrition you’re helping provide, Nova and Reinaldo may very well prepare gourmet meals as professional chefs one day.
Thank you for giving kids the nourishment they need to thrive — and creating a bright future for our community.
