Support: Philabundance’s 30 Ways in 30 Days

By Melissa Greiner, Main Line Parent

As harvest season begins, make sure everyone has a chance at the table by supporting Philabundance during Hunger Action Month.

There is no season when it comes to hunger — families across the country are scrapping by on food every day. But in an effort to take one month and turn it into a jump-start for hunger awareness and support, Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, is encouraging those who can to take part in one of 30 different ways to help fight hunger in our area.

The 30 Days in 30 Ways campaign simply shows how simple efforts can make a big difference. Hang it on the fridge, review it with your children, and see what kind of difference you can make this month. Highlights include:

  • The Fill a Plate, Give a Meal campaign, which will fill the Philabundance website this month. Famous faces from news personalities to chefs to children’s characters have written their messages of hope on a paper plate, and would love for you to do the same. Send your plate to Philabundance and they will send it to Harrisburg as part of The Paper Plate Advocacy Project.
  • The Second Annual Hunger Symposium on September 13 at The Hub at the Circa Center in Philadelphia. Learn about the troubles facing food banks and how you can help them get the food they need to make a difference.
  • The Hunger Strike Bike Tour, where Johnny Mac’s Chopper House spokespeople will be visiting area Tony Luke’s locations with a for-grabs custom bike and selling $10 raffle tickets which will go toward feeding 10 families. You can also purchase raffle tickets online.
