Teva Pharmaceuticals And The Philadelphia Eagles Team Up With Philabundance At The Northeast Philadelphia Fresh For All Site

Event pumps excitement into local community

Philadelphia, PA (September 30, 2011) – Yesterday, Teva Pharmaceuticals and the Philadelphia Eagles provided an entertaining experience for some local low-income residents at the Northeast Philadelphia Fresh For All site. Appearances by an Eagles Alumnus, cheerleaders and SWOOP, the team’s mascot, offered a reprieve from the otherwise routine task.

The Philabundance Fresh For All program offers fresh fruits, vegetables and bread to local individuals that may not otherwise be able to afford it. Typically, the process is fairly customary and after individuals have selected their groceries, they head home. Yesterday, however, was different. Yesterday, as individuals waited in line for their turn, they were handed raffle tickets and told that, not only would they have a chance to meet Eagles Alumnus, Fred Barnett, but they would also be in the running for a chance to win a variety of exciting Eagles merchandise.

While SWOOP and the cheerleaders interacted with the group, Fred called out the winning raffle ticket numbers and got the group excited. People of all ages walked away from the event with autographed Eagles water bottles, raffled merchandise and cheek-to-cheek smiles.

This site is one of two Fresh For All sites that Teva sponsors. The company started its sponsorship last year and now underwrites both the Northeast Philadelphia and Souderton trucks.

“Our work with Philabundance is not only rewarding, but it is a lot of fun. We get to interact with the community and provide them with important foods and nutrients that they may not otherwise be able to obtain. It’s great being able to help out wherever we can,” says Denise Bradley, senior director, corporate communications.

“Fruits and vegetables are the first to be crossed off the grocery list when money is tight and with Fresh For All, Philabundance strives to help families get the much needed fresh fruits and vegetables they need as part of a nutritious diet,” said  Bill Clark, president and executive director of Philabundance. “Teva is a wonderful partner and their support of our two Fresh For All sites is crucial in serving communities in need of fresh fruits and vegetables.”

Teva’s presence in Northeast Philadelphia extends beyond the Summerdale and Godfrey site. This past Tuesday, the company hosted its groundbreaking ceremony to commence construction on its new Distribution Center in Northeast Philadelphia, less than ten miles from the Fresh For All site.

Teva is excited to continue its work in the community and is grateful to have such a great community partner like the Eagles to enhance these events exponentially.

“We couldn’t be happier about the opportunities that we currently have in Philadelphia and are excited to keep the momentum going,” Bradley said.
