Valuing Our Volunteers

In 2014 alone, more than 17,000 people volunteered at Philabundance’s Hunger Relief Center— offsetting labor costs by close to $2 million and allowing that savings to be reinvested into driving hunger from our communities.

Top volunteers rolled up their sleeves for exclusive shifts.

To honor, thank and encourage this impact, Philabundance celebrated National Volunteer Week 2015 by hosting exclusive volunteer shifts and a barbeque block party for our top volunteers.

Throughout the week individuals and corporate partners (including Bank of America, Campbell Soup Company, Comcast, Dunkin’ Donuts, GlaxoSmithKline, Nationwide, PECO, Vanguard and Wells Fargo) who contributed the most donated time and/or funds over the past two years rolled up their sleeves to sort, pack, freeze, box, wrap and haul various goods throughout the warehouse. Fueled by a passion for giving (and a generous donation of tasty snacks by Dunkin’ Donuts), each group continued to bring outstanding energy to their shift.

The festivities culminated with a barbeque block party on Friday, April 17, where some of our veteran volunteers gathered to exchange favorite memories and share meaningful reasons why they choose to support us. One handwritten note perfectly captured the selfless volunteer spirit, simply writing, “If not me, who?”

Even though the official recognition week is over, we continue to thank ALL our volunteers who go above and beyond to support us, every day. As we shared in a special message on our Facebook page, you are truly priceless to us!
