Your Gifts Help Students Thrive!
September is Hunger Action Month – a time when we raise awareness about the prevalence of hunger in our area. Here, one in four people face hunger, while nationally the number is one in seven. We encourage you to take action by giving time, money or food — or spread the word that hunger is a dire issue and urge others to join in helping to solve it.
As kids begin a new school year, free and reduced-price meals are once again available in the cafeteria. However, having enough to eat on evenings, weekends and holidays remains a struggle for many children and families. That’s why I can’t thank generous friends like you enough. With your help, students have the energy to focus on their schoolwork, grow and play.
Nutrition and learning go hand in hand. Thanks to your support, Philabundance can connect hungry children and families with the food they need. By feeding kids today, you’re helping ensure more young people grow up to be healthy and productive contributors to our community.
But don’t just take my word for it. In this issue, you’ll read stories that demonstrate your impact. Your generosity is what fuels programs like KidsBites at Lowell Elementary. The coordinator, Diane Gillen, is so grateful for the role you play in eliminating hunger at her school. And your support also helps people like Yolanda, who gets needed food at one of our 350 agencies.
I hope the stories you read in this issue of The Feed will inspire you to encourage others to join this cause. The more our community knows about the need for food, the closer we’ll come to providing enough for everyone at risk of going hungry.
Thank you so much for your generosity this back-to-school season and all year long. Because of you, so many individuals and families in our community have the opportunity to thrive.
