Driving Hunger Away During Ramadan

Philabundance proudly partnered with State Senator Sharif Street to provide meals to the community during Ramadan, the holiest month of the year for Muslims and a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion and worship. Muslims are expected to fast from sundown to sunset, and those unable to fast are encouraged to help feed others in need.

From April 13 to May 12 the Philabundance Community Kitchen (PCK), our culinary arts and life skills training program, provided 200 meals a day. Meals were distributed at a different location each evening throughout Philadelphia. Over the course of the month, 6,000 people were served a nutritious meal.

Philabundance is thankful to our amazing staff at PCK for adding this endeavor to their already busy kitchen, and to Senator Street’s office for coming to Philabundance with this amazing idea. We are grateful for this new opportunity to connect with and serve more community members.
