Our Programs for Kids

One third of the hungry people we serve are children – 30,000 kids and their families benefit from our food assistance each week. Our children’s feeding programs, under the KidsBites Initiative, provide access to nutritious food in low-income areas for children and their families. Since its inception, KidsBites has provided almost 250,000 pounds of food to children to provide them the nutrition they need to learn and grow. To meet the needs and size of different communities, Philabundance offers several program models.

Kid's Programs LunchBox

The LunchBox program provides free and nutritious ready-to-eat meals for kids under 18. Meals are produced by our culinary training program, Philabundance Community Kitchen, and distributed at targeted sites. Clients register at a site and receive a ready-to-eat meal that day.

Kid's Programs BackPack

The BackPack program provides free, nutritious and easy-to-prepare supplemental meals for kids at area schools. BackPack meal kits provide 3-5 pounds of food which will offer approximately 3-6 meals featuring kid-friendly items that require little to no preparation. The BackPacks are provided to all enrolled students and families at the partner school or community center unless the family specifically declines to participate.

Kid's Programs MobilePantry

The MobilePantry provides an experience similar to shopping at a farmers’ market or grocery store, but all items are free to participants, and help encourage healthy eating by providing fresh produce, and other items, such as protein, dairy and grocery products. To maintain the dignity and respect of our clients, we require no proof of income.

Honestly I wouldn't have enough without KidsBites.
Janay, MobilePantry attendee
