Gleaning

Philabundance Gleaning Session

Philabundance collaborates with local farmers in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey to provide fresh, local produce to our hungry neighbors throughout the Delaware Valley.

When our partners find themselves with surplus or unmarketable produce our volunteers harvest — or glean — that produce, which is then taken back to our warehouse to be sorted and distributed back into the communities we serve.

Delaware Valley University Roth Center gleaningWhat is gleaning? Gleaning is simply the act of harvesting excess fresh produce from farms. Last year our “gleaners” and farm partners harvested more than 220,000 pounds of fresh produce!

When is gleaning season? Weather depending, our season runs from June through October. Gleans take place on weekdays from 8:30 AM to 12 PM.

Can I help glean? We’d love to have you on the farm! Check out our gleaning volunteer calendar to view shift times and register yourself and/or a group.

How do I become a farm partner? If you have excess produce on your farm you’d like to donate to Philabundance then please call 215.339.0900 or email our Food Acquisition Team with your contact information and a staff member will be in touch with more information.
