More Than a Meal: How Amy Titus is Fighting Hunger at PCK

For Amy Titus, showing up at the Philabundance Community Kitchen (PCK) wasn’t just about giving back. It was about finding a way to channel her concern for others into something real, something hands-on. And from her very first volunteer shift, she knew she was in the right place.

“I wanted to become involved with a program that had an impact on the community,” she says. “Philabundance hit the mark for me.”

Since February 2024, Amy has become a familiar face at PCK—a culinary training and meal production program that’s tackling hunger and unemployment in Philadelphia one plate (and one person) at a time. But for Amy, it’s more than just preparing meals or packaging food. It’s being part of a movement.

“I’ve always been concerned about those in our community facing food insecurity,” she explains. “It’s upsetting to think about how many people deal with this every day. The work that’s done at PCK helps alleviate that burden.”

PCK is unique in its dual mission: it not only provides thousands of healthy, high-quality meals for people in need—it also offers a life-changing, 16-week culinary job training program for individuals looking to build a better future.

“The more I learned about PCK, the more I wanted to be part of it,” Amy says. “Their mission is multipurpose.”

But for all the impact PCK has on the community, what’s impacted Amy the most might surprise you.

“Honestly? It’s the people,” she says with a smile. “Everyone at PCK is united by the same goal—helping to end hunger.”

Amy lights up when she talks about the friends she’s made: the chefs who lead with skill and compassion, the students who bring so much heart to their training, and the fellow volunteers who are now part of her weekly routine.

In a world where it’s easy to feel disconnected, Amy has found something rare: a place where purpose and people go hand-in-hand. She’s not just helping to feed the community—she’s helping to fuel a movement.

“I’m grateful for the new friendships I’ve made, and I’m looking forward to many more years as a Philabundance volunteer.”
