On April 8, Philabundance Community Kitchen (PCK) hosted a seasonal Community Cook-In!
Philabundance Nutrition Educator Julia Cobble and PCK Director Marc BrownGold led a cooking demonstration on how to make a grilled chicken spring grain bowl with homemade vinaigrette. Attendees received fresh ingredients to prepare the grain bowl at home, an extra ready-to-eat meal, and a brand-new blender.
“The goal of events like these is to give people more than just food. The cooking demonstration is casual and engaging; people get to ask questions specific to their diet and their comfort level with cooking,” John Coates, Philabundance Director of Community Access said. “We don’t just give everyone the ingredients to prepare the meal at home; we give them the tools to make it again and again. More importantly, we’re empowering people to help make healthier and cost-effective choices at home for them and their families.”
As part of Philabundance’s Healthy Pantry Initiative, Community Cook-Ins are an interactive way to educate community members on how to implement healthy alternatives in a meal and provide cooking tips from culinary professionals.
