When Tim O’Neil walks into the Philabundance Produce Hub before 8:15 a.m., he knows exactly what to expect: hard work, early mornings, and a community that never stops showing up.
Since October 2023, Tim has been part of a loyal group of volunteers who help keep the hub running smoothly — greeting partners, loading produce, and making sure fresh, healthy food makes it to the organizations that serve thousands across our region.
“By the end of the day, I feel accomplished. I’ve spent three hours helping others. I’m inspired by the community partners — everyone who comes to the hub is kind, appreciative, and they’re really doing something special.”
For Tim, Philabundance was an easy choice. Our mission to relieve hunger and provide access to nutritious food aligned with his values from day one — but it was the hands-on, community-focused approach that made him stay.
“Hunger is a huge issue in this country. The way Philabundance handles things — it’s all hands-on. The way they reach out to the community is inspiring.”
Volunteer Appreciation Month is a time to recognize people like Tim — humble, dependable, and deeply committed to making a difference. But when asked about being celebrated, Tim turns the spotlight back on the team.
“It’s very humbling. I’m surrounded by people who’ve been volunteering for years and do more than me. The folks I work with at the Hub are there at 7 a.m. and stay until noon — they’ve dedicated so much to the cause.”
His advice to someone considering volunteering?
“Come join us. Try it out. It’s amazing. We’ve got a very loyal group — get your feet wet.”
We’re grateful for volunteers like Tim — people who keep the mission moving forward with steady hands and full hearts.
