Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Through Service at Roxborough

Each year, Philabundance celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through impactful acts of service. This year, we hosted a special volunteer shift at our Roxborough location that truly embodied his vision of community and equality.

Over 80 volunteersโ€”representing individuals, corporate groups, and social organizationsโ€”came together to pack more than 5,000 Backpack Meals for children in need. These meals provide free, healthy, ready-to-eat food for children who rely on school breakfasts and lunches as their primary source of nutrition, ensuring they have access to nourishment on weekends and school breaks.

Dr. Kingโ€™s words, โ€œI have the audacity to believe that people everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits,โ€ inspire us every day. This volunteer shift was a powerful reminder of how service can unite and uplift a community in pursuit of a shared goal.

We are deeply thankful to our Roxborough volunteers for supporting this mission and helping us honor Dr. Kingโ€™s legacy in such a meaningful way. Together, weโ€™re making strides toward a hunger-free future.
