Philabundance Will Drive Hunger Away During Ramadan

Staff and volunteers working to drive hunger away during Ramadan

Ramadan is a sacred time of fasting, introspection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion to prayer. Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, and those unable to fast are encouraged to help feed others in need.

For the second year in a row, Philabundance will be working with State Senator Street’s office to provide 200 meals to families each evening during Ramadan. The 2022 Driving Hunger Away During Ramadan program will run from April 2nd to May 2nd. The meals will be made by the Philabundance Community Kitchen.

Community members can pick up their meals at a different site over 30 days – locations including housing developments, recreation centers, community and cultural centers, medical facilities, and more. For a full list of dates and locations visit Senator Street’s website. Participants can also learn more by calling (215) 227-6161.

Sponsors who have given or pledged support of the initiative include Keystone First, Philadelphia Ramadan & Eid Fund, The Islamic Relief Fund, Aetna, Dedicated Senior Medical Center, Philadelphia Technical Training Institute, and Jeff Brown’s ShopRite.
